Wide Open Spaces

No more snaggle tooth! Reese finally gave in and let me yank out her very loose tooth. That makes number 6. I hope they come in quickly because she has to shove everything she eats to the back of her mouth. The front is just a big open space. When they do start growing she'll have to go back to the dentist to have two more pulled to make room. Here is our toothless cutie patootie:

Daddy Daughter Dance

Friday night Kevin & Reese went to a daddy daughter dance organized by the Girl Scouts. They had a blast. In the past Reese paid little attention to him at something like this and instead ran with her pack of girlfriends. This time was different. Kevin said that she doted on him the whole time and even danced with him. Unfortunately the battery in our camera died so he couldn't take pictures. BUT, the did have a fun photo booth so they brought home pictures. I love my crazy family!

One Today, Two Tomorrow

Four short hours from now, Talan will be two years old. The video from yesterday is a preview of what our day will be like tomorrow. All he's asked for is a "Chuck-E-Cheese Buff-day" and a "'Supey Why' (Super Why....a cartoon he loves) buff-day cake". So that, my friends, is what he will get. I found a picture online of a cake and thought I'd give it a shot, although I wasn't sure how I was going to pull it off. As luck would have it, a friend of mine (thanks Norma!) posted a question about fondant earlier this week. I've always wanted to try a cake using it but it doesn't taste good. Her friends suggested that she try a homemade version using marshmallows and powdered sugar. I tried it and voila!!!! It was easy, I was able to make the cake Talan wanted, and it was extremely cost effective. So here is how my cake turned out: I'm really proud of it, actually. And Talan loves it which is what matters most. So the cake was a success today. I failed miserably in another area. Reese has had a snaggle tooth for a few days. It looks to be hanging by a thread - it's practically sideways in her mouth - but it isn't quite ready to come out yet. It's making eating really difficult for her. So this morning we were trying to figure out what, on earth, she could bring for lunch. We don't have a good enough thermos to send soup. By the time she gets to lunch she says it is too cold and doesn't eat it. I was planning to go to the store for all of the things I needed for Talan's cake anyway so I had a great idea.....I'd get what I needed to make her a smoothie and some soup and I'd just come bring it to her at lunchtime. She loved that idea so I told her I'd be there at 1pm, when she goes to lunch. Meanwhile I rushed off and ran all 25 of my errands. I was checking out at Target just after 11 (leaving me plenty of time to get home to make lunch and then to the school) when Kevin called in a panic. Reese was in the front office waiting for us to bring her lunch. Lunch is at 11, not 1. It was at 1 last year, when she was in Kindergarten. I was in a bind and couldn't get there in time. Kevin called back and they decided that she'd just eat the hot lunch at school because by this time she only had 10 minutes left before lunch was over. I felt terrible. I came home with a knot in my stomach and couldn't stop thinking about her all day. I knew she wouldn't eat lunch at school; (a) because her tooth was bothering her and (b) because she isn't a fan of the food. I was so anxious for her to get home so that I could apologize and try to make up for it. She came home with this note for us: She said that she was really brave in the front office but that when she went back to the lunchroom they were already going out to recess so she had to eat in a "special room" and she didn't like the food. So that's when she broke down and cried. Fortunately the lady who works in the lunchroom is amazing and helped comfort her. I had her smoothie and soup waiting when she walked in the door but it was certainly not enough to make up for my huge mistake. I hate that I let her down. I can tell you with 100% certainty that I will not make that same mistake twice. Reese and Kevin are at a daddy/daughter dance tonight. I'm sure they are having a blast so hopefully my screw-up this afternoon is already a distant memory.

Snowtorious B.I.G.

Snowpocalypse. Snowmaggedon. SnOMG. Snowzilla. Whatever you want to call it, just know it's snow joke. Last night it started with wind. When I say wind, I mean gusts up to 70mph. It sounded like a tornado was whipping through all night. We couldn't even get a sense for how much snow was falling because it was just flying through the air. I don't know how we all managed to sleep last night but we did. And we woke up to this: I have to say, I was a little bit fascinated by it all. I'm a Florida girl and still not used to so much snow. We all threw on some snow gear (over our PJs) and headed outside to check it out up close: Kevin had a huge job....clearing the driveway. Tomorrow is supposed to bring freezing temperatures so what we don't clear will turn to ice. Here he is two hours later: The wall of snow at the end of the driveway was two feet high. Crazy!: Hopefully this is it for a while. I haven't seen a single car on the neighborhood roads today and I'm guessing things will take more than a day to get back to normal. I just got a call to say that school will be cancelled again tomorrow. That will make it six days stuck indoors. Lord help me.

She's Got the Fever

....and not the disco or Bieber kind. Reese has been fighting a high fever for days now. It started early Saturday morning and by Sunday was as high as 104. So scary. Even alternating doses of Motrin and Tylenol would only take it down to the 100 range. I finally gave in and took her to the doctor yesterday. Of course by the time we got to her appointment her fever was down to 99. I kind of figured that making the appointment and going in would do the trick as it usually does. They did both a strep and a flu test while we were there and both came back negative. Apparently the fever is just a symptom of a nasty virus going around. Most people have it for somewhere around 5 days. I thought yesterday was the last day when she got through most of it without spiking a fever. Unfortunately Reese gave us a midnight wake up call last night and the 102 fever was back. We have her back to normal again this afternoon. After five days of being cooped up in the house I know she is as ready to get back to school as I am. Cabin fever is an understatement at this point. I'll be lucky if I have a single hair left on my head after today. This pretty much sums up the past few days:

Bieliebers

Reese had her friend, Belle, sleep over last night. They both have "Bieber fever" and asked me to tape a message for them so that they can email it to him. Hilar! They were arguing over who was the biggest fan and finally settled it by deciding that they were "twin fans" meaning they both love him the same.
