His day got off to a great start. Reese and I went in to greet him and he was in a great mood:
He wasn't really into the decorations and barely noticed the gifts and balloons. However, he was stoked on the chocolate chip pancakes:
And he was very excited to check out his chair (compliments of Nana & Papa):
After a short morning nap we had to figure out what his "dream day" would consist of. Well, food of course! So off we went to Red Robin for his birthday lunch:
He wasn't super impressed by the pretty ladies singing to him:
He was, however, VERY impressed by the ice cream sundae:
He's still goo goo for monkey's so I made monkey cupcakes and a special monkey "smash cake" for him:
We invited our family, the Hellers, over to share in the bday celebration so I decked out the kitchen:
Talan couldn't care less who was there, he was just ready for the pizza!:
Huh, what, did someone say pizza????? Yay!!!!:
The gang (Sophia, Lydia, Talan, Julia, Reese, & Olivia):
I was more excited to see him dig into that cake than I was about any other moment in the whole day. Reese wouldn't even touch her first year bday cake in fear that she'd get icing on her fingers so I was so ready for my baby boy to dig right in and get down and dirty. Unfortunately, I waited way too long for that moment - like 2 hours past his bedtime long - and he wasn't having it:
But I tried my best to ignore the tears streaming down his face and to pretend like he was laughing, not crying:
And for a second it worked and he stopped. Could it be? Is he going to dig in (like, still has icing in his ears three days later style)?:
Nope.:
Thank goodness he recovered long enough to open his gifts. A train set from us:
And look what Grandma & Grandad got him!:
So much fun!:
But I am so glad the cops weren't out because homey would have been charged with a DWI (of too much sugar and too little sleep). I tried to take his keys but he wasn't having it!:
His cousin, Julia, finally convinced him to let her drive instead and we were able to tuck him into bed without a struggle.
Don't think that I didn't wrap up that cake in hopes of a proper smash tomorrow. I am not giving up hope that easy! I know he's got it in him. Gosh I love that kid. Today has been a whirlwind. I'm still sort of feeling like I'm in a dream. One whole year has gone by since he was born. Unreal.
I was going to say the same as Paul. You're such an amazing mama! Love the pictures. Looks like you nailed his "dream day". Happy birthday Talan! Congrats Mom & Dad.
You are the best momma! Your kiddos are very lucky! Excited to see pics of the "smash". Come on Talan, I know you can do it!
