Suvari Girls Take Naperville

We have had such a fun week (so much fun that there was little to no time for blogging). Trisha & Maitlen arrived from Florida for a visit on Monday evening. On Tuesday morning we woke up to terrible weather so we took advantage of the rainy day and spent most of it in our PJs. We finally decided to leave the house that afternoon for a trip to the mall to ride the carousel but outside of that we just enjoyed the company. On Wednesday morning we woke up to sunshine and blue skies so we packed up the kids and headed into downtown Naperville for a picnic in the park. The weather was picture perfect. It's days like this that renew my faith in the Midwest after suffering through a loooooong winter. I love the Riverwalk in Naperville. Here's a shot of the girls cooling down at one of the fountains.
After a walk through town it was time to indulge. There is an ice cream shop here called Cookie Dough Creations. They are an ice cream shop that also sells raw cookie dough (made without raw eggs and safe to eat). You pick a flavor of ice cream AND whichever dough you'd like and they give you a scoop of each. If you enjoy licking the spoon while baking cake, cookies, or brownies, this store is a little slice of Heaven. I know how much Trisha (and her husband Sulev!) love cookie dough so I couldn't wait to take her here! Here is a shot of her treat. On top of her ice cream you'll see her choice in cookie dough; peanut butter chocolate chip.
So delicious!!!! This was only my second trip. I have to stay away because I, too, love cookie dough so that place can be dangerous! Talan loved it, too. No surprise there.
This is the only photo I got with both of us in it.
It felt so great having her here. It was such a relaxing, enjoyable visit. Growing up together, I always imagined times like this. Vacationing together, watching our kids play. Maitlen & Reese got along fantastically despite the 3 year age gap and Talan had fun annoying trying to keep up with the two girls. When times are good, real good, I always sit and wait for something to go wrong. After such an amazing week, I was waiting for it. Well, it started with our A/C going out. Obviously it happened on the most humid, hot day thus far. Duh. I was lucky and got to escape the heat by way of the car because about the time we realized the A/C was on the fritz, it was time to take Trisha & Maitlen to the airport. With tear filled eyes, I dropped them off and headed home. I was 5 minutes from my house when I got a call from Trisha. They missed their flight. Check-in is one hour before your flight leaves and they were somewhere around 8 minutes too late. Long story short, they spent all afternoon and then all night in the airport only to be turned away each time they tried to fly standby on a flight. By the time they realized they were out of luck it was late night and they opted for a night in the on-site hotel at the airport so that they could try again today. I still haven't heard from Trisha this morning but I'm praying it's because they have finally been able to get on a flight and head home. I hate that the trip was tainted by such an awful experience at the very end. Hopefully luck will be on their side today. To be continued.....

  1. I took a nap in your living room, I ate some decadent home cooked meals that I didn't have to prepare, and I didn't have to entertain Maitlen for 12 straight hours, now THAT'S a vacation! I can't thank you guys enough for taking such good care of us and letting us take over your house for 4 days. Reese was incredibly patient and sweet with Maitlen, I was so surprised she wasn't ready to get rid of her by day 4. That's a lot for her to put up with. I miss Tal's talking and his little tantrums!!! Despite the extra day spent in the airport, it didn't at all end my trip on a bad note. We got to have breakfast in bed at a hotel, I would say that's a bonus! Can't wait to see you guys in a month. Thanks for the R&R visit, I needed it! Love all 4 of you!
