Extra Long Weekend

Last week we were anticipating a 4-day weekend.  We had the Labor Day holiday and no school today because it's a teacher work day.  What we weren't prepared for was the extra day off.  It was so hot last week that they cancelled school on Friday.  The elementary school has no air conditioning (well, with the exception of the front office and teacher's lounge.  Gotta make sure the staff is comfortable!) so the kids were miserable all week.

So with the kids both being home on Friday, we decided to take advantage and went to see Kevin's new office and to meet him for lunch.  On Saturday the hot weather turned into rain.  We had already planned to do a shrimp boil at our house and had invited over another family.  We made the best of it and set it all up in the garage.

On Sunday we woke up to much cooler temperatures but the skies were blue.  Pulling out our jackets for the first time in months was a reminder of what is right around the corner.  We decided on a whim to reach out to some neighbors for an impromptu meet-up at the park.  We picked up a few pizzas and several families ended up joining us.  The kids had a blast!

On Monday morning we were excited to hit the annual Labor Day Parade in downtown Naperville.  It's tradition to pick up donuts on the way there.

We had a blast watching the parade with friends.

Talan was really into it this year.  He was in awe.

It's feeling brisk out again today.  I'm praying for at least a few more weeks of warm weather before the dreaded winter begins.
