Southern Soiree

This month was our dinner club kick off (we take the summer off).  I was so excited to get back to it!  Once again, our group of 6 couples didn't disappoint.  Kevin and I hosted so we chose a southern theme.

The pre-dinner drink was a mint julep and the appetizers were spicy fried pickles.

The salad was a grilled pear on mixed greens with mint julep melons on the side.

Our soup was an old-southern style okra gumbo.

For the main course, Kevin and I decided on buttermilk fried chicken served with wild rice waffles, a pink peppercorn butter, and horseradish syrup.

It was so so good that I completely forgot to take a picture before my butter had melted and I'd taken a huge bite.

The dessert - I also missed getting a picture of that one - was a pecan pie with bourbon whipped cream.  Everything was delicious.  Next month is my favorite dinner club of the year because the host always picks a theme and coming dressed-up is a must.  I love any reason to put a costume together!  Oh, and the food doesn't suck either.

Good times!
