E + M = Hampton²

I'm way behind on my blog but for a good reason. We've been having way too much fun to turn on the computer. Erica and Mikhala flew into town last week on Saturday. They got in early and after spending some time catching up, I sent Erica to bed. Erica works harder than almost anyone I know. Her shift is from midnight until 11am. On her rare days off, she spends her time doing whatever it takes to make her family and Mikhala happy....leaving little to no time for sleep. Part of my mission during her visit was to make her rest. I am happy to report that her vacation started with a nice, 5-hour nap! Afterwards we had dinner and spent hours sitting around the table telling stories and just enjoying each others' company.
Erica wasn't the only one who was exhausted. Sweet Mikhala fell asleep like this! Speaking of Mikhala; can we say spitting image of Erica? They are seriously one person in two bodies. It's hilarious! They have the same likes, dislikes, and an identical laugh. It's awesome! At one point I asked Mikhala, "are you guys going to ride the ferris wheel at Navy Pier?" and she answered "we don't do heights". So stinkin' cute! We had such a nice week. We spent the first couple of days relaxing around the house. On Sunday afternoon the girls were having so much fun playing that we didn't want to have to call them in for dinner. Instead we just brought it out to them. I loved seeing our kids play together. In three years, Mikhala will be the same age that we were when we met. Full circle. I got really choked up in church on Sunday when I looked to my right and saw Reese, Erica, and Mikhala (Kevin & Talan were there, too, but they were stuck in the cry room). Who would have thought that 23 years later we'd be sitting in church, with our kids, in Illinois? On Tuesday we ventured into the city to see Shrek The Musical. Erica's friends drove from Wisconsin to meet us. After a quick dinner it was off to see the show. It was fantastic! Reese was in Heaven. She barely blinked in fear of missing something. On Thursday Erica & Mikhala went back into the city to do some sightseeing and to catch a Cubs game. My only complaint about their visit was that it flew by way too quickly. On Friday morning we packed up the car and hit the road. The girls bought a one-way ticket so that we could do the road trip back to Florida together. Kevin stayed back to work. I have to say, I wasn't looking forward to the trip. 3 kids, 3 days, 16+ hours of driving? Sounded pretty miserable to me. I was pleasantly surprised by how it actually turned out. We had so much fun singing, laughing, and reminiscing! And the kids? They were borderline angelic. Truly. We stopped in Franklin, TN to stay with my parents on Friday night and then drove the second leg on Sunday. It really couldn't have gone better. I've got so much love for Hampton²!
