More Flags, More Fun!

Kevin was able to work double time on Monday and Tuesday so that he could take a day off. We got up early yesterday, packed the truck, and headed out to Six Flags. It's just over an hour away so it was a quick drive. I had butterflies when we pulled up and saw all of the roller coasters! I honestly think I might have been more excited than Reese was (and trust me, she was very excited). In all of my excitement I spaced and forgot the camera. Thank goodness for iPhones. We were able to capture a few images throughout the day with our two phones. We got there before the opened the gates so while we waited, we mapped out our game plan. They opened the gates and Reese and I took off running to get in line for her very first roller coaster ride. We rode The Dark Knight. It's an indoor coaster so it was really dark and spooky. She was such a trooper! She loved it so much that she came right out, grabbed Kevin, and rode it a second time with him. The last time I was at an amusement park was Disney and I was pregnant with Talan at the time so I couldn't ride anything fun. The time before that was on our honeymoon, 13 years ago, so this trip to the park was long overdue. We trekked on and Talan was able to get on his first ride. He was giggling and screaming with joy the entire time. Next up was the Raging River ride. We got drenched! Of course we sat in the seats that pinned us underneath a waterfall.
There went my hair. Dad, I totally should have brought a shower cap!*
Reese was so darned brave. She wanted to ride this one all by herself. I wasn't a huge fan of that idea but we let her have her way.
One of my favorite parts of the day was the Log Flume ride. I still can't believe they allow little itty bitty kids to ride but I'm glad they did because we had a blast!
It was still early in the day and there were no lines so we rode it twice. Another highlight of my day was riding a huge roller coaster (called "Demon")with Reese. I really can't believe how brave this kid is. We stood in line for 35 minutes waiting to get on so she was able to watch it over and over again and was still willing to get on. When it was finally our turn, we loaded up and the bar came down and I looked over to see this teeny tiny sweet girl next to me with one, not so safe looking bar over her arms. I started to get a little freaked out at that point knowing that this was what we were about to experience:
I put my arm across her legs and held them with all my might for the entire ride. It was an awesome ride but I was thinking of her the whole time. We got to the end and I looked over and the poor thing was petrified! She looked up at me and said "no way I'm riding that again with Daddy!".
Reese needed a break from "the big people rides" so we went to a kid friendly zone for some fun. It was such a nice day! We weren't prepared with suits or towels but we didn't let that stop us.
It's all fun and games until you see this!
Seriously?!? What was this Granny thinking? So many things wrong with this photo. What NOT to wear.
Back to the fun.
We ended the day with a ride on the carousel. Always a hit with our kids.
What an awesome day! Both kids were exhausted. This is Reese 10 minutes into the drive home. She was singing a song one second, the next I looked back and saw this:
We all really needed a day like yesterday. It was just what the doctor ordered!
*When I was about 13 (can't remember my exact age but I know it was in those awkward teen years), my family went on a trip to Six Flags. We stood in line for one of the "you're going to get soaked" style water rides and all six of us loaded up together. We got to the top of the hill, just before the big splash, and my Dad says something to draw attention. I turned around and he was wearing a shower cap that he'd smuggled out of the hotel. The 13-year-old me was mortified! I think I walked 10 feet behind him for a good part of that afternoon. Looking back, it was a brilliant (not to mention hilarious!) idea that I am sure I'll borrow. I wish I would have thought of it yesterday!
