Potty Over Here, Potty Over There

We've had Talan's potty out in our bathroom for months now.  Normally our routine is that we have him sit on the potty for a couple of minutes before his bath.  He doesn't mind it at all but every night he would just sit there because it was routine before getting into the bath, not to actually pee in it.  He has randomly gone (most likely just really good timing) a couple of times but hasn't really showed much interest otherwise.  That is, until this past Friday.  He actually asked to sit on the potty......and he peed!  We were so excited!!!  Reese, Kevin and I were all jumping around like idiots doing the "potty dance" and fist pumping like crazy.  In turn, he was excited and ended up sitting back down 5 or 6 more times, even to push out the smallest drop.  We repeated our excitement each time.  That was all it took.  Well, that and some M&Ms as a reward.  He's now full-on obsessed with peeing in the potty.  Today was day 3.

We had to bring a second potty downstairs and because he tries to go several times an hour, we put it in the middle of the house.  Yesterday he spent most of the day hanging out commando, but because it's nice out and we've had the windows and doors open I thought it best to put him in some underwear as to not offend the neighbors.

Talan was super excited to wear his Yo Gabba Gabba "Brobie" underpants.  He happened to pick his Yo Gabba shirt today as well so he was all decked out.

We went over it again and again.  "Don't pee pee on Brobie or he'll be very sad".  He'd repeat after me and would tell me each time he had to go.  We made somewhere around 437 trips to the potty today.

Multiply that times two and that's how many M&Ms he ate today.  He was a very happy boy!

I began prepping dinner when I heard from around the corner "Mommy, I has chocolate on my toes".  Folks, it wasn't M&Ms.  It was poop.  And it wasn't only on his toes, it was smooched onto the flip flops he was wearing, running down both legs, and beneath several footprints across the floor.  Oh the joy of potty training.  I think he had already pooped in his pants and then was trying to pull them down to make it to the toilet to pee because he had peed on the floor as well.  And of course it wasn't one of those hard, solid, easy to clean turds that I could have just rolled off of the floor, into a paper towel, and flushed down the toilet.  Oh no.  It took about a half a roll of paper towels.  I will spare you a more detailed description.  You're welcome.

We haven't pushed him with this at all.  Only encouraged him after he started showing interest.  I'm excited for him but think that this is a little early.  I'm not at all looking forward to another poopoopalooza fest but I also won't deny him the underpants and potty if he continues to show this much interest.  He approached me tonight and said "I poo poo on Brobie.  That's not nice.  I sorry Brobie".  He does get it to some extent.  That said, time to invest in a boat load of plastic gloves and antibacterial cleaners.
