My poor little monkey man had a rough morning. Wednesdays are usually really great days in our house. It's the one day a week that he gets to be a big boy and go to school. This morning I had to go in and wake him up after 8am. That's rare. When I did he was really grumpy and asked if he could just stay in bed. I finally convinced him to get up and ready. I just so happened to be on the ball this morning and had lunches packed, one kid fed, and I was dressed and ready to walk out the door.
He got downstairs and was just not himself. He refused to talk to Kevin and insisted that I hold him. I had him in one arm and was pouring myself a cup of coffee when he started to cough and gag. And then came the vomit. Pour kid was so upset and I could tell his stomach was hurting him. I called to let school know that he wasn't going to be there today and then had to break some news to Reese.
We were named "parents of the week" and had the opportunity to go into the classroom to observe, participate, and get a child's perspective of how the school day goes. Fortunately, Kevin had let work know that he was going to come in late because he wanted to be there as well. With Talan down for the count I wasn't able to go in. Reese was devastated. She suggested that we "get Talan a bucket, put him in bed, and call a babysitter". Good thinking but I had to stay home.
He is doing great today. He's had a little cold so I think laying down all night and having the junk in his nose drip into his throat could have upset his stomach. Either that or the 11 meatballs he ate last night (related: Reese ate 11 pancakes this morning. They were small but if you know Reese, you know that's still a lot for her). Oink oink! Either way I think it was just a fluke and that he's fine. I hate that it ruined Reese's day and that he had to miss school. Kevin really enjoyed being there this morning. Maybe I'll get another chance.
