Just Zoo It

Who in their right mind would pile up into one vehicle and brave the zoo with 3 dramatic girls between the ages of 4 and 6....oh and two babies under 5 months? THESE GIRLS Yep, we're nuts. Thank God it went well and the girls were well behaved. The babies were a breeze. They usually are as long as you can strap them into the stroller and go. We visited the Brookfield Zoo. It was a first for our family but the Hellers have been a couple of times. The weather today was mild which ended up making for a perfect day. The heat wouldn't have been a lot of fun with the littlest two. We saw more than I thought we would. It's tough to get more than 10 steps without: (a) someone needing a bathroom, (b) someone needing food or drink, (c) re-inserting a pacifier, or (d) stopping to nurse a baby. Here are a few of the highlights:
So back to nursing in public....I have never been super comfortable with it. This time around has been better because in the 5 years that lapsed between having Reese and now having Talan, there are new products out there. My favorite? The "hooter hider". Love that thing! It's like a shawl that I wear around my neck to give me a little privacy when I'm nursing Talan. You can't see anything with it on and most people don't even realize what I'm doing. Very discreet. In fact, I was at the Cornwell wedding and had a 15 minute conversation with someone while feeding T. When he finished eating, I pulled him out from under the cover and the guy I was talking to was in shock. He stumbled over his words while trying to apologize for standing there while I was feeding him. I had to laugh. He obvs doesn't know me too well. No way the wrap would have been part of my outfit. I would never pair that shade of blue with the purple dress I was wearing. Yesterday while I was waiting, with both kids in tow, for an oil change, Reese brought up the old hooter hider. The room was full of men. She loudly announced that it would be okay if Talan gets hungry because I have the blue thing that I can put around me so "those boys can't see your boobies". Thank God they finished with my truck about 5 minutes later. Kids.
After our stop at the car shop we had to head to the doctor's office. Talan has a rash on both arms that I wanted to get checked out. While there they put him on the scale. He weighs 14.7 pounds. He is gaining weight like crazy! I'm not surprised. He's eating solids at least three times a day now. Our only problem is that I can't seem to shovel it in fast enough. So far he has eaten everything with no trouble; peas, green beans, squash, sweet potatoes, pears, peaches, rice cereal & oatmeal. The one and only thing he grimaces at is the reflux meds. Even so, he still takes them like a champ. He's getting really strong. He's rolling over both ways and as of yesterday started pulling his legs under him and moving across the floor like an inchworm. I'm sure crawling is around the corner. Not looking forward to child-proofing. I never had to with Reese. She was the type that if you said "don't touch" she didn't touch. Talan? I can already tell you that ain't happening. Here are a couple of photos from today. 5 months on Sunday. Unreal.
Where did the time go? The days are long but the years are short.....so true. Thanks for reading.
