P.I.T.B. Syndrome

This, my friends, is the face of a sick little girl. How can she be so cute even when she feels like poop? Yesterday the school called me. She had been to the nurses office twice complaining of a headache. They called me at the end of the day and said that she didn't want me to come and pick her up so I let her wait out the last 3o minutes and asked them to keep her off of the bus so that I could come and get her. When we got to the school and she walked out of the doors I knew right away that she was in bad shape. She broke down. She was complaining that her eyes were "afraid of the light" and that her brain was hurting. I took her into the doctor immediately and they sent us home with a virus diagnosis. Nothing we could do outside of waiting it out. This morning she woke up with a high fever and once again complaining of a headache. Really? 5-year-olds should not have to deal with headaches! Not cool. It's excruciating to watch her deal with it. Fortunately I already had an appointment booked for Talan. He's not sick but I'm convinced that he's got pain-in-the-butt syndrome so I took him in to see if they can prescribe anything. I brought Reese back in since I was there with Talan anyway just to be sure. They tested her for H1N1 and she was negative so it's just another virus or flu that she's fighting off. Poor thing. I pumped her full of fluids and alternated Tylenol & Motrin and still couldn't keep her fever below 100 throughout the course of the day. As for Talan, sure enough, he has pain-in-the-butt syndrome! I knew it. Must be mother's instinct. He has been a pill for weeks and I'm pretty much at my wit's end. I brought him in to rule out an ear infection, teething, and any other common diagnosis that could be causing him to cry and whine for hours on end. Good news? He got a clean bill of health. Bad news? He is just in a whiny phase. Doctor's words? "Brace yourself because this could last another month or two". Pray for me people. Pray hard.
