Road trips. They just aren't what they used to be! We really needed this time away from home but it sure hasn't felt like much of a vacation. It went something like this:
Friday - drove, all day, to Tennessee. Unpack car.
Saturday - pack car. Drove, all day, to Florida. Unpack car.
Sunday - pack car. Drove 2 hours to Panama City. Unpack car.
Monday - beach day! Yea, not so much. It was cloudy and cold so we spent a good part of the day cooped up inside. Finally left the condo at 3 for a couple of hours. Bright side? We didn't have to pack or unpack!
Tuesday - Reese's birthday and finally a gorgeous day. Spent a couple of hours by the pool before the mad rush to....wait for it...PACK! Cleaned and packed it up for the 2 hour drive back to Niceville for Reese's bday party at Grandma & Granddad's. Had an awesome visit with lots of family and friends. Unpacked.
Wednesday - I was so exhausted that I slept until 10! Felt guilty but it was so fantastic to feel rested for the first time in days. We finally made it out of the house at 2:30 only to find that the weather was not cooperating at the beach. We did, however, have the opportunity to visit with friends and of course Kevin's parents.
Thursday - finally a picture perfect day. Reese had a morning playdate with Maitlen and by 11:30 we were off to the beach! Kevin and his dad packed us a picnic lunch so we were set! Kevin, Reese and I had a blast in the sun thanks to Grandma and Granddad who kept Talan for us for the day. Diane joined us for a couple of hours before we headed home. Unfortunately, I somehow missed my shins while applying sunscreen and got toasted. I've never had a burn this bad. I had to rally because last night Kevin and I snuck away an met up with friends. It was fabulous to have that time.
Today - Packed. Had lunch. Drove. We are still in the car (9PM) and headed to my parents' house. The drive has been brutal for some reason. I'm tired, Kevin is tired, both kids are tired. The thought of unpacking this truck, yet again, is giving me an anxiety attack.
Our plan is to relax tomorrow and leave on Sunday afternoon for the last 9 hour leg of the drive. I wish flying were cheaper and more convenient. I don't want to do this again but I will have to. In July we have to drive back only this time the drive to FL will be sans Kevin. My (practically) lifelong friend, Erica, and her daughter will be with us. The kids will outnumber us. Frightening!
I've got plenty of photos an videos from our trip but it'll all have to wait. My iPhone rocks but it's not that good! 30 minute to go. Can't wait to unpack. If I win the lottery I'm totally buying a private jet. Road trips are for the birds!
