Peanuts & Crackerjacks

Each year the elementary school has a reading program. The more you read, the more prizes you can earn. Reese read over 600 minutes and one of the prizes she earned was a ticket to see a Kane County Cougar's baseball game (our local farm team). Whatever it takes to force the parents to buy $20 in tickets for themselves and who-knows-how-much in food and crap we're going to throw away the second we walk in the door souvenirs, right? We decided to pack up and head out to the game yesterday afternoon. The sun was shining but we soon realized that looks can be deceiving. It was super chilly despite the blue skies! We went back and forth with our decision to go as a family but in the end we decided that it would be more fun to be all together. We were quickly reminded of why 1-yr-olds and almost any outing don't mix. Homey is a mess! He still can't walk (more than a couple of steps) but seems to think he can. And he loves the sound of his own voice, particularly when he's screaming at the top of his lungs. The day was really about Reese so we sucked it up and did what we had to do in order to make it to the 7th inning. Pretty impressive if you ask me. When we got there the kids who were a part of the "Ozzy reading club" got to parade around the field. Talan anxiously awaited: There they are!: Reese!!!: Afterwards they got to stay down on the field to meet some of the players. She got a baseball and several of them signed it for her. Although she doesn't look thrilled in the least in this picture, she was very excited: We ran into so many of her friends and classmates. Good thing we took a picture when we did because we were only in our seats for 20 minutes before we had to move on to appease the crazy toddler: After hot dogs & french fries it was time to move on to cotton candy: Hey, don't judge. It made him stop screaming for a couple of minutes. Whatever it takes people. In other Reese news, she was selected as Wolf of the Week for the second time. This morning she gets to go into the front office to say the Pledge of Allegiance on the loud speaker. Very exciting for her. And in Talan news? This picture pretty much sums it up: He's miserable. We're miserable. He is getting a little better with walking. He's still not taking more than a few steps at a time before he nosedives or collapses onto the floor but there is a tad bit of improvement. Here's a little video I shot of him this morning. The screaming halfway through? That's about half as loud as it usually is. My eardrums are shot (along with my nerves).
