We had the absolute BEST time celebrating the 4th. It started with a boat ride out to Crab Island courtesy of our good friend Eddie (and his Dad who generously loaned us the boat). Eddie, Kevin and I, my brother Jeff, Kevin's brother Keith, Heather and Brian, Diane, and Bryan Rust loaded up. It was a group of some of our very closest friends and favorite people. We had a blast on the way over and then spent hours there, enjoying the crystal clear water and the awesome company. If you've never been to Destin you're missing out. And Crab Island is a must. You're amongst hundreds of boats who all anchor and proceed to blare music and hang out in the waist deep water. So. Much. Fun.
There are definitely some characters there. Check out the "Redneck Yacht Club":
A huge change since the last time I was there? There were several vendors! Some on anchored boats and some riding around on jet skis. They sold everything from pizza, to koozies, to hot boiled peanuts.
On the way back across the water Ed stopped the boat and dropped anchor in the middle of the bay. It's a tradition and in my younger years I would have absolutely joined everyone for a swim but I've become a huge wimp in my old age. I was way too scared of sharks so I stayed on the boat and played photographer instead.
Had I jumped in I would have missed this awesome shot of Keith jumping in!
