Kevin and I spent last weekend at his 20 year high school reunion. One of the highlights was a tour of the high school. One of his classmates is now the vice principal so he lead the tour which was pretty crazy. The kids joined us and got an earful the entire way through.
We walked through the halls and I was taking a turn as narrator and said to Reese, "this was one of my classrooms and the teacher's name was Mrs. Kortbein". I looked up at the door and sure enough, there was her name on the door. She's still there and teaching in the same classroom. The kids and I snuck in for a photo opp.
This was my favorite stop. We had to get a picture in the 200 hall, standing in the exact spot where we first met and where I fell in love with Kevin....21 years ago! Thank you, God, for eventually leading him back to me!
These were taken in the cafeteria. They didn't have the murals when we were here.
We walked into the gym where I have so many good memories. During my Freshman and Sophomore years we had all of our pep rallies in there. It was such a small space that you could really feel the energy. I was on the dance team, too, so it was a rush to get out there on the floor and perform so close to the crowd. Halfway through my Sophomore year they moved everything out to the stadium and it kind of ruined the whole experience. For me anyway. They've been outside ever since but we were told that they are going to try moving them inside again next year. I hope for the sake of the students that they do.
The stadium at NHS is awesome. I didn't appreciate it like I should have when I was there but going back and walking around gave me chill bumps. I would love to get back for a game.
We finished with a walk through the front office. Hard to believe that Kevin didn't have to spend much time there as a student.
Maybe I hold on to the Eagle pride because I went to a small college with no team to cheer for. Or maybe it is as magical as I remember it being. Either way I appreciate every minute, the good and bad, of my high school experience and was so ecstatic to be back. NHS let's gooooooo Eagles!

Imagine being a parent of kid in the same class as two of Mrs. Kortbein's kids, always makes me feel like a naughty school-girl being at the same parent conferences as her, LOL. If you ever come back for a football game- let me know! It was so good to see you, even if briefly while you were here- always good to see you!
