A broken shoulder? Yes. A broken tradition? Not a chance.
Our annual tradition is to go and see the Nutcracker ballet. My Mom does her best to join Reese & I when we can and had planned to be there for it again this year. Her injury threatened to keep her home but she is as hard headed as they come and insisted on coming. I know she wasn't at all comfortable but she made it and we have a picture to prove it.
This year was an extra special show because Olivia was a part of the cast. She played three roles but in the show we saw she was a dancing girl. Unfortunately we had to rush off afterwards and didn't get to congratulate her in person but we did get to see the rest of the family. Made for a cute photo opp with Sophia.
The next day we honored another of our family traditions. We drove around Naperville looking at all of the best Christmas lights. There are some pretty spectacular displays nearby our house.
Pretty soon into our drive we were in for a really great surprise. We rolled up on a house with Santa sitting in a rocking chair in the front yard. We stopped for a while and hung out with him (thanks to the unusually warm weather that night we didn't even have to bundle up!).
We drove around for nearly 3 hours eating warm ham and cheese sandwiches, sipping hot cocoa/coffee, and singing Christmas carols. Hoping we can do it one last time before everyone starts tearing down the lights.
