What a miserable two days it's been. Kevin was feeling a little "off" on Monday night when we went to bed. Me? I was just fine. But at 2am, at the same exact time, we jumped out of bed and went running in opposite directions for the upstairs bathrooms. We were both violently ill and were up and down all night and all morning long.
Reese came in, as she always does, to let us know that she was awake and was going to go downstairs to prepare for the school day. She saw how sick we are and, bless her sweet little heart, came downstairs and made breakfast for she and Talan. She took care of Talan up until she had to catch the school bus, actually.
Kevin and I were literally writhing on the couch in pain. By midday we were already getting dehydrated and feeling no better but we kept thinking that it would start to get better. Fortunately Talan was happy to watch TV all day so outside of making him lunch (which Kevin did in between trips to the bathroom to get sick) he was pretty easy to care for. Finally, at 6pm, we both gave up and called a friend over to stay with the kids so that we could go to the ER.
We have a great emergency clinic a few minutes away from our house and were able to get right back. They put us in the same room and we shared one bed. I had my right arm hanging off of the right side and he had his left arm hanging off of the left side.
They filled us full of fluids, potassium, and anti-nausea medication and 3 1/2 hours later we were on our way home. Unfortunately we weren't feeling much better and had another rough night last night. Today we are slowly recovering. We even managed to get down some soup and crackers.
Eric the elf has quite the sense of humor. This is what we woke up to this morning:
He's such a character. Santa definitely picked the right elf for our family. He fits right in. Praying the kids (and Eric!) can stay healthy and that we've beat this nasty bug for good.
