A friend of mine told me the most beautiful story this weekend. So beautiful that I feel compelled to share. Last week, her husband's grandfather, Bill, passed away. His grandmother, Effie, preceded him in death 12 years ago and Bill had missed her every day since. They travelled to Bloomington to attend his funeral. The day of the funeral as the family gathered, they noticed a huge, gorgeous arrangement. The flowers stood out amongst the rest. They were curious to know who sent it and were shocked when they read the card: "Hurry up Bill! I've been waiting for you. Love, Effie"
Obviously they were confused as to how and why the arrangement had arrived from his grandmother who had been gone for 12 years. The next day they contacted the florist who told them the story. Bill had sent Effie flowers very frequently until the day she passed. He came to know the people who worked at the florist. Two years ago he felt his health deteriorating and went into the florist. He ordered the arrangement and told them what he wanted the card to say. He then asked them to check the obituaries every week and to send the flowers when to his funeral if and when they saw his obituary. The florist said that she and her coworkers had done just as he'd requested and checked each and every week for two years and were saddened to learn of his death but happy to be able to grant his wish and send the flowers.
I cried so hard when she told the story and again when I came home and shared it with Kevin. So very sad that he passed but so wonderful that they were reunited at Heaven's gates. True love.
