Reese had a fabulous first week back at school. Her first day was great. She got off of the bus all smiles so I figured it was a good day.
Right after school I took the kids for celebratory root beer floats. As much as she loved the treat, she rushed through it because she was anxious to run the streets, sharing "first day of school" stories with her friends on our street.
Talan did better than I thought he would without her here. He did, however, express a lot of interest in going to school. So I did a little bit of research and found a "Parent's Day Out" program at a local church. It operates just like a preschool and is a very structured day for the kids. They called me on Monday and let me know that they had an opening for a 2.5 year old on Wednesdays. We went in right away to see the facility and Talan was excited to sign up for "school". We went back in on Wednesday to an open house to meet his teachers. He starts going next week, every Wednesday, from 9 until 1.
To celebrate, I took him out and bought him a lunchbox and some new shoes. When Reese got home I took both kids to get haircuts. Nothing makes a better first impression than a mohawk so that's the look we went with. It's so cute!
Next time we'll go a little more drastic. When it dries on it's own it lays flat and isn't much of a 'hawk (see pictures below). He's once again expressing interest in potty training so I had him in underwear all day today with the exception of when he was at the gym daycare and at nap time. Here he is busting a move to the music channel on television.
Speaking of music, in addition to the guitar lessons, Reese has also started in voice lessons. She did great and seemed to really impress the teacher. She was asked to bring in a song to sing and of course chose Jen Duke's song, Weak in the Knees. The teacher sent me a message after the lesson: "I tell you, Reese really does have a nice voice! She seems to sing very naturally (easily), has a nice quality, and sings on pitch amazingly well". Proud mama!
Her new favorite thing to do is to find the karaoke section on the DVR. She would sit in front of the TV and sing all day long if I let her. Here she is jamming out last weekend:
