How Do You Spell Trouble?

We had another very nice weekend. Almost all of Saturday was spent in the kitchen. Kevin & I love cooking together so we really had a good time. We had friends over for dinner so we made quite a bit of food. Our apps were pears spears with a soft cheese spread and rolled in walnuts & pork meatballs with a spicy dipping sauce. We had caprese towers for the salad and the main course was another kisforkitchen find - the soy, citrus, avocado chicken breasts served with rice & edamame. For dessert I made a strawberry layer cake from scratch. It was all so good and the company was a perfect compliment to a delicious meal. On Sunday we went to church, worked around the house, and then went for a walk. The weather has been beautiful! Sunny and blue skies. It is still a little chilly but I'm not complaining. On our way back home from our walk we noticed three young boys across the street. One of them started using some pretty nasty language. I wouldn't have cared but it was loud enough that Reese could hear. I turned around and yelled to them to watch their mouths. The culprit didn't like that too much and responded to me by yelling "Shut the f*$% up you b*#$@". Uh oh. Kevin was not a happy camper and took off after them. They ran into some trees to hide. He watched them for a few minutes to get an idea of where they were going but at that point they would have just kept running and hiding so he came home. He was still pretty peeved so he got in the truck to go and look for them. Our subdivision is not very big so he knew he'd see them....and he did, pretty much right away. By this time the group had grown from 3 boys to 5. He waited for them to walk next to the truck and then jumped out to confront them. The culprit screamed out "OH CRAP....RUN!" so they all scattered! He said it was hilarious! There was only one who didn't run. Kevin approached him and asked him how old he was. He said 10. Kevin said he told him that he didn't care what kind of language he used around his friends but that he didn't want to hear it when he was with his wife and young kids. He asked him what his parents would do if he went and told them what happened. This is where the kid's lip started to quiver. He said that he would be grounded. Kevin asked him where the culprit lived and he showed him. He said "I'm not going to tell your parents, but you tell your friend that I know where he lives". A couple were out in their yard when Kevin was stalking the kids and approached him afterwards. They asked what happened and he explained. Apparently the culprit has a reputation. He was kicked off of the bus and suspended from school for his mouth. I'm sure he won't change his ways but maybe those other boys will try to discourage him from screaming out at people the next time he tries it. I can almost guarantee you that the youngin' with the quivering lip will not want to be any part of it. Peer pressure can work both ways. One last paragraph before I finish this novel. I've been working hard with Reese on her reading. She's really into it! She was up to about 20 words this past weekend and we added another 4 this morning. It's also helped with mealtime. I have her take a bite before she gets the next word. I can't believe she falls for it! I'm bribing her with learning. Loves!!! Here she is in action: And speaking of bad words....looks like we won't be getting away with spelling them anymore. Thanks for reading.
