I Heart Margaritas

Let's get the most important thing out of the way; this is post numero cien on Cinco de Mayo! Here's to post #100! Wave yo hands in the air, and wave 'em like you just don't care. Heeeey, hoooooo, heeeey, hoooooo. Now that that's out of the way....I took Talan to see his doctor today. The runny nose and cough were starting to worry me. We pay out the tail end for our insurance so we might as well use it. We met our deductible in February when I had the c-section and I swore that if any of us had as much as an itchy butt that we were going to march right into that office and get our money's worth. She checked him out and said that he looked fine and his lungs are clear so there is nothing to worry about. We talked a little about his change in sleep habits and his overall fussiness and she pretty much said that it can be chalked up to the fact that he is just a fussy baby and nothing more than that. She swears that he'll turn around by month 4. Four weeks and counting. If it were just a fussy baby I think I'd survive. But a fussy baby AND a high strung 5-year-old? How do you people with more than two have any hair left on your head? Mom, Dad....God bless you. And to think, when Mom would threaten to run away when we were kids, I always thought she was kidding! Newsflash - it wasn't a joke. She probably had a bag packed! I get it now. I am so upset that it only took 3 months before Talan caught his first cold. I try so hard to keep the germs away but it's impossible with a little human petri dish (aka Reese) constantly up in his face. She means well, she really does, but she is making it so hard to keep him healthy! She is usually good with the routine; she is pretty good about walking in the door from school or being outside and washing her hands. BUT she sucks her thumb (which we have dubbed "stink finger") in her mouth, digs in her nose, scratches her butt, etc. pretty much right after the hand wash which makes it null and void. If Talan is at her level, in his bouncy seat, swing, or bassinet, and he even lets out a little peep - much less a full on cry - girlfriend takes off across the room like she's running for her life so that she can be the one to put his pacifier in. All I hear is "thump, thump, thump, thump, thump" across the floors followed by "it's okay baby Tal, sister is here". She isn't supposed to touch his pacifier because rather than grabbing it by the handle and gently offering it to him, she tends to roll it around in her stinky, booger, who-knows-where-else-they've-been hands before shoving it in....whether he's receptive or not. Reese is at ballet right now. Aunt Jean & Uncle Kenny swooped in and saved the day today by letting her ride with them. I finally got Talan to sleep and sat down for the first time all day. Fortunately I tackled dinner this morning. I made Jessica's Pumpkin Black Bean Soup with Roasted Poblano Quesidillas (see K is for Kitchen linked in sidebar for recipe). My house smells divine! And I snuck a taste of the soup....Holy Guacamole! Muy buenos amigos!!! Can't wait to have a bowl with an ice cold cerveza. Aaaaaaaaand, that makes the last of the words I know in Spanish so I think I'll end it here. Thanks for reading.

  1. Yep, consecutive kids STAY sick. I know mine do. Like you said, they bring germs home from school and you can't help that!
