You Forgot My Lunch!

This post is a bit of a rewind. Last week, on Friday, we decided last minute that we'd surprise Reese that day for lunch. I left her lunchbox empty and we planned for Kevin to meet her at school with a special lunch. She normally doesn't open up her lunch until she gets to the cafeteria so we didn't think twice about leaving it empty. Well, she knew it felt light that day and opened it up in her classroom before heading for the lunchroom. Her teacher thought that we must have had a busy morning and forgot to put her lunch in and gave her a pass for "hot lunch". Hot lunch isn't something we're ready for Reese to do yet. She asks constantly but her teacher recommended that we wait until the second half of the year or even until 1st grade to let them go through the line. Anyway, she couldn't have been happier that Mommy & Daddy forgot her lunch because she was stoked to get to go through the hot lunch line. We hadn't anticipated that one at all. Kevin was standing in front of the cafeteria doors, anxiously awaiting Reese's arrival and so excited to see her reaction. She reacted alright!!! Instead of a warm embrace, he got scolded by her. He tried to explain that he planned it that way and that he brought her a cheeseburger and fries from McDonald's (her favorite treat). Now she understood that he didn't forget on purpose but she was very upset that she wasn't going to get hot lunch after all. Poor Kevin. He tried! She did eventually cheer up and told everyone (including the lunchroom monitors) who he was. Kevin said it was a riot....the kids were all super cute and talkative. Next time I think we'll let her in on the surprise. :)
