This week got off to a really great start. After talking up our Sunday afternoon we ended up doing pretty much nothing at all. We did make it to church that morning but on our way home a storm came out of nowhere and put a big fat dent in our plans for the day. Rather than fighting the weather we went home and relaxed. Unknowingly we all really needed it.
On Monday I tried to make up for our dud of a Sunday. We met friends at the bowling alley for an afternoon of fun. Unfortunately Sophia came down with a cold but Olivia rode over with us and we joined Reese's friends Carson, Cody, & Annika at the lanes. It took two hours to bowl one game! Of course we broke for pizza halfway through but still!!!! I could have kicked myself for forgetting my camera but luckily my girlfriend Jennifer had hers so she sent me a picture:

On Tuesday we woke up to a phone call from friends of ours in the neighborhood. Their daughter, Lydia, is a friend of Reese's. They invited Reese to join them at "the beach" (really just a big pool). Reese was so excited that she was in her swimsuit and goggles 2.8 seconds after I told her that they had called. Unfortunately "the beach" was closed for the day and they didn't find out until they were at the gate to go in. They made the best of it and rode the paddle boats and played at the big park in downtown Naperville. It wouldn't have mattered at all to Reese what they did. She just felt special being a part of it all.
All week we were counting down to today....the day we get to go to the school and meet Reese's teacher, Ms. Sheley. In true
Griswold Branton fashion, she went to bed last night and woke up just after midnight complaining of a sore throat. From there she continued waking every hour on the hour, her conditioning deteriorating each time we came in to check on her. By the time she was up for the day she'd added a stuffy nose, achy body, headache, and fever to her list of symptoms. Poor little thing was in rare form. She was moaning in pain. I called and got her in to the doctor today only to hear exactly what I'd expected to hear "it'll have to run it's course....nothing we can do for you". Awesome. We pumped her full of Tylenol and got her down for a nap before the 4 o'clock meet and greet at her school. She woke up in rare form and was a total monster (understandably so) but fortunately she pulled it together and was able to muster the energy and attitude before getting to the school. We are praying that she's back to at least 50% by Friday. If she's anything like she was today there is no way she can get through a 7+ hour school day.
Despite poor Reese's cold (she was a little rock star once we got there), our afternoon was really exciting. Her teacher is a doll! First impression was ab-fab. Loved her! Here she is with Reese:

It was so weird seeing her sitting at her little table. She was assigned to a table with one other girl and two boys. They broke the orientation up into two groups so she only got to meet a few classmates.

It was so weird being back in that environment and brought back a plethora of memories. Have you ever realized how teensy tiny those chairs are?

Here she is doing a little bit of classroom exploration.

We walked the halls after her meet-and-greet. I can't believe that she's on her own as of Friday. She's going to grow and change so much this next year.

Officially a "White Eagle Elementary Wolf".

I was talking to Kevin tonight about how strange it is to think in 12 years she will be graduating from high school and could be saying "I've known her/him since Kindergarten". This is the beginning of a lifetime of memories. Wow. My baby...... Kleenex please.
