School Daze

This is the last day of the last weekend before Reese starts school. We are going to let her decide how we spend the day. I have a feeling that she is going to want to swim which will be tricky with Talan. I'll probably have to send her out with Kevin. I just want her to have a perfect afternoon and to make sure that she feels special.
On Thursday we found out that she will be in Ms. Sheley's class. Her teacher has been teaching Kindergarten for 23 years. We've heard so many great things about her. On Friday we went to a new family orientation at her school, White Eagle Elementary. We were able to meet the principal and we toured the school. The teachers weren't there but we did sneak a peek into her classroom. So cute!
Next up is Kindergarten meet-and-greet. It was supposed to be on Thursday morning but her teacher has a daughter starting college that day so we are going on Wednesday afternoon instead. We'll meet her, see the classroom, drop of school supplies, and meet some of her classmates. On Friday morning she'll start her first full day.....bus ride and all. I'm hoping we can see her off and then beat the bus to school so that we can get some video (without her knowing). I'm so anxious to see how she handles it all. She's friends with all of the neighborhood kids so at least she'll know a bunch of kids on the bus. There is only one bus that goes to the school and it's hers. The rest of the neighborhood is within 1.5 miles of the school so they have to walk, ride a bike, or get dropped off. At least she won't be overwhelmed with trying to find the right bus....there is only one! I'll be spending Mon-Thurs gearing myself up for Friday. Not sure how I'm going to handle it. Initially I thought it would be okay but as the day gets closer I get more and more emotional. Note to self: stock up on Kleenex.
Back to Friday; in addition to taking care of kids and running off to the orientation I also had to prep for my neighborhood Bunco. There are somewhere around 20 girls who play once a month. We rotate hosting responsibilities and this month it was my turn. Unfortunately it fell on the same day that Kevin was out of town and not due to return until after 9PM. Fortunately I pulled it together and had a great night. I prepped as much as I could the night before and the day of Heather once again came to the rescue. She took Reese for me at 5:30 and Kevin picked her up on his way home from the airport that night. I put Talan to bed at 6:30 and had an hour to prepare before the girls showed up. I got everything ready except myself. I answered the door with Talan's puke on my dress, smelling like sweat and vomit, and looking like a hot mess. Hopefully they won't judge. All in all it turned out fine and now I'm off the hook as far as hosting for at least a year and a half.
(on the menu: fried asparagus w/ lemon garlic aioli, skewered prosciutto pasta w/ pesto, artichoke squares, lemongrass & chicken spring rolls, tangy roll-ups w/salsa, banana nut bread, cupcakes, and the empty plate eventually had TJ's puff pastries with caramelized onions and feta cheese)
Off to enjoy the day with my precious daughter and sweet son. Oh, and my super hot, thoughtful, wonderful, amazing, hunk of a hubs. Thanks for reading.

  1. I cant believe they are starting school! We went to Jacobs meet the teacher on Thursday and it was surreal! Oh course, he looks like a teenager compared to the other kids, LOL! Reese is going to do so well. She is a well adjusted, sweet girl who is going to love K!!!

And your menu looks fab! Great job pulling that off while Kev was out of town. Kudos Mama!!
