Twas the Night Before K

Today ended up being a really busy day. We wrapped up a bunch of last minute errands in preparation for Reese's big day tomorrow. Thank goodness she woke up feeling much better this morning! Kindergarten starts a day later than grades 1 through 5. Being that today was the first day for the rest of the neighborhood kids we walked outside to see them all off. We were excited to see the bus pull up and Reese was thrilled thinking about being one of the kids in line to get on it starting tomorrow. One of my many projects for today was a magnetic white board that I can use for her lunch planning. She's so finicky when it comes to food so I just want to be sure that (a) she knows exactly what will be in her lunch before I pack it and (b) she is in on deciding what she gets and when. I printed up a bunch of pictures and made them into magnets and voila! Here's the "lunch board". Been-there-done-that Moms....I'd love suggestions to add some variety to the menu if you've got them! When we got back from our running around Reese spent the afternoon resting. She's still not 100% but we're hoping that by tomorrow she will have had enough rest to at least have a good day. We're almost to 24 hours without a fever which is great. The rest of us are still healthy (knock on wood). Talan is 28 weeks old today. Hard to believe. Look at those baby blues! He is SO cute! Bedtime was rough tonight. I knew it would be. Kevin and I both went in to read her a special book tonight. A friend of mine loaned me "The Night Before Kindergarten". I did great reading it until I got to this part: The children were happy. They loved Mrs. Sunrise It was she who was in for a giant surprise. What to her wandering eyes should appear but sad Moms and Dads who were holding back tears! (I'm crying AGAIN just typing it! And I wonder why she's so emotional!) I couldn't finish it. Kevin had to read the end. Reese was so sweet and told me not to worry and not to cry, that she would be okay....and then she told me to stop because I was getting her pillow wet. Tomorrow is going to be so emotional. I think I'll flip flop between boo-hoo and woo-hoo all day long. I'm so excited for her but I also know that this is just the beginning of letting go. She will now have to take all of those things that we've taught her and tried to instill in her and make good use of them. Time to start spreading those wings so that one day she can learn to fly. The last line of the book I read her tonight will help me get through the day tomorrow. I know she'll do great: The children all waved from the door of the school. "Don't cry Mom and Dad; Kindergarten is cool!"

  1. okay, i will say that you are very crafty, almost too crafty, but i do have a suggestion for another lunch idea. it's something all my kids eat and it's super easy...Pasta Salad! that is if Reese will eat noodles and veggies...i see you only have carrots and cucumbers, so are tomatoes and olives out?
can't wait to hear about her first day!

    Can I borrow another tissue?!

What a sweet little kindergartener you have there. She's already begun to spread her wings, Mama. You've done, and continue to do, such an amazing job raising your little ones.

I'm still catching up, can't wait to read how the 1st day went...
